I’m sure that the godhood aspect of the gameplay in The Sims games has been belabored by more insightful minds than mine. However, my wife recently concocted a Sim scenario which reflected a delicious contradiction that has, I now realize, troubled me since my days as a regular churchgoing Methodist.
Put bluntly, she made a Sim-brothel. She first built a large house with many bedrooms. Then she created a family consisting of an older mother and half-a-dozen adult daughters. Mom got the Fortune aspiration; for the younger ladies, it was the Romance aspiration. My wife then directed the sisters to set about seducing every Sim in the neighborhood, rewarding the household with an influx of cash and goodies every time one of the girls scored with another Sim.
In order to accomplish this sexual conquest of the native Sim population, she of course had to make her ladies comely and personable. But life in a household full of friendly individuals doesn’t make for much in the drama department. So she made one of the daughters overweight, ugly and as unsocial as possible. And named her Fakey.
