From Richard Jaffe, a Houston attorney who represents a company that was recently charged by the Federal Trade Commission for making false and misleading claims about herbal “cancer cures.” Mr. Jaffe claims that the government is trying to censor his client, because describing past use of an herb isn’t a claim to any efficacy.
“[Just] because an herb was used by ancient Chinese or native Americans doesn’t mean it works.”
Their defense to fraud charges is that the people who buy their products should know that those products don’t work. Bullshit. These leeches engage in an appeal to authority that would make the Pope blush. Their entire industry is based on the false claim that big, bad scientific medicine is ignorant or hostile to remedies whose safety and efficacy are completely unsupportable, except for the fact that they were used by long lost civilizations. They can’t be allowed to claim that it’s okay because people should know that they’re full of shit.
The obvious question that remains is, what kind of immoral parasite would knowingly sell a useless herbal “remedy” for a devastating illness?
